Effects and Distribution
Carapace Armour is stronger and thicker then Flak Armour, which and it gives the wearer more likelihood of surviving a direct impact with standard weaponry small-arms rounds, although (though it does little to protect against stronger weapons). It can commonly be found in all arms of the Imperium's fighting forces, including the Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy. Although it is very rare to see troops equipped with Carapace armour, in favour of who will usually be equipped with simpler Flak Armour, there are several Imperial Guard Legions that have most or all of their troops wearing it, including the Terrax Guard.
Due to its relative scarcity it is often worn by Imperial Guard Officers as a badge of rank as much as armour. The standard practice of equipping Storm Troopers with Carapace Armour often puts them at odds with standard guardsmen, who invariably think that they are undeserving of the honour. Inspite However, due to due to the weight and cumbersomeness of this, Carapace Armour can be heavy and cumbersome to use in prolonged combat situations so , many would choose the lighter, more maneuverable alternatives despite the apparent risks.
