Meanwhile on the surface, Word Bearers [[Terminator]]s under Vrakon traded blows with [[Unnumbered Sons]] of [[Roboute Guilliman]] led by [[Ferren Areios]]. Vrakon badly wounded Areios and left him for dead, and by this point Tenebrus had discovered the location of the Star Child. Their mission achieved, the traitor forces departed.{{Fn|1b}}
During the battle, nearly all the Black Templars of the [[Angevin Crusade (Black Templars)|Angevin Crusade]] were slain. In the final stages of the battle Lucerne revealed to the Black Templars [[Chaplain]] [[Mortian]] that he knew the truth of their Crusade's mutiny against their previous Marshal and their massacre of a [[Torchbearer Fleet]]. This caused the Chaplain to nearly kill Lucerne, though [[Neophyte]] [[Botho]] intervened and slew the traitor instead.{{Fn|1c}}
