He claimed to "know" In [[M42]], his status became gravely important when the will of [[Great Darkness]] began on [[Necromunda (planet)|Necromunda]], during which his father [[Gerontius Helmawr|Gerontius]] was attacked by an assassin. While the [[Planetary Governor]] survived, Gerontius was left fatally wounded and had to be placed within a [[Stasis Casket]] in order to save his life. This left the [[Hive World]] without leadership, and fighting erupted between the Governor's [[Trueborn (House Helmawr)|Trueborn]] heirs who sought to succeed their Father. Gilbarn was among those who voiced that they should be the rightful successor and claimed this was due "knowing" the will of Necromunda's people like no other living [[House Helmawr|Helmawr]] livingcould{{Fn|1a}}. Many of his siblings were killed in the Great Darkness, but Gilbarn was among{{Fn|2}} the fourteen{{Fn|1b}} who still survived, when [[Haera Helmawr|Haera]] called for a meeting between the Trueborn. Gilbarn and five other siblings attended the meeting, but by then he no longer had any interest in succeeding his Father. Instead Gilbarn was among put his support behind his sister [[Gerontius Yvetta Helmawr|GerontiusYvetta]], due to her being the Trueborn' heirs s eldest surviving sibling and that claimed she had aided their Father in ruling the Hive World for many years. His brothers [[Horlun Helmawr|Horlun]] and [[Kartar Helmawr|Kartar]] did the same, but Yvetta refused to succeed Gerontius and stated they were the rightful successor should wait for him to recover. Meanwhile his brother [[Nyco Helmawr|Nyco]] and sister [[Hive WorldKyree Helmawr|Kyree]], argued against both waiting and on Yvetta becoming Necromunda's next Planetary Governor.{{Fn|2}}  [[Haera Helmawr|Haera]] did as well and it was at that moment she enacted her plot to succeed her [[Imperial CommanderGerontius Helmawr|Father]], by killing her rival [[Trueborn (House Helmawr)|throneTrueborn]]heirs. The entire meeting had been a ruse for her to gather them all in one place and in the battle that followed, after an Gilbarn tried to escape as most of his siblings moved to attack their traitorous sister. He then downed a [[AssassinCamoelean Elixir]], which allowed Gilbarn to blend into the chamber the meeting was being held in. As the fighting raged, Gilbarn used this to hide from the other Trueborn, as he slowly made his way to the chamber's attack left door, which would allow him to escape. Before he could do so, though, Gilbarn was spotted by Haera and she soon stood over him within . Panicking at the sight of her, Gilbarn tried to defend himself with a [[Stasis CasketStub Gun|Holdout Stub Gun]], but Haera bisected his skull with her [[Phase Sword]] before he could fire the weapon. The rest of the Trueborn in the meeting died soon afterwards{{Fn|2}} and with most{{Fn|1b}} of her siblings now gone, Haera was able to take command of [[House Helmawr]] and succeeded her Father as the new ruler of [[Necromunda (planet)|Necromunda]].{{Fn|12}}
