Led by the [[Chaos Lord]] [[Gluthor Skurvithrax]], the {{PAGENAME}} specializes specialise in void combat and raiding. Since [[Mortarion]] has returned to activity Skurvithrax and his warband prowl the galaxy in their flagship, the corrupted [[Strike Cruiser]] ''[[Everbleed]]''. On land, the {{PAGENAME}} specialize in ferocious infantry-based raids led by [[Plague Marine]]s and [[Blightlord Terminator]]s which advance alongside numerous [[Lords of Virulence]] who direct hails of accurate [[Plagueburst Mortar]] fire. Spreading viruses wherever they go, they have been unleashed by Mortarion himself to conduct devastating raids to fuel the Death Guard's war efforts. However , they are viewed with disdain by other members of the Death Guard who view their tactics as against the Legion's doctrine of attritional war and beneath [[Nurgle]]'s notice.{{Fn|1}}

The warband is known to strike at the same world repeatedly, often waiting until they have fully rebuilt from a raid before striking again. Often their raids leave behind [[Miasmic Malignifier]]s sutured to the planet's crust to slowly infect the world. They have spent long years fighting the [[Tyranids]] of [[Hive Fleet Scitalis]] in defense defence of [[Vermidium]]. Here the vectorium maintains many of its bases, draws most of its slave and recruits, and trades with what it has taken in raids. Since the opening of the [[Great Rift]] this region has blossomed, becoming a thriving hub of disease and viral generation. The [[Deathshroud]] maintain a presence on the world to stop the many civil wars that break up among Death Guard forces on the planet. With the [[Tyranid]] invasion all of this is at risk and the 6th Plague Company in particular has risen to drive back the [[Xenos]]. Tyranid armies have been liquidized liquidised and brewed into obscenely strong toxins, benefiting the Death Guard despite their losses. These maladies have been hoarded by the Venomariners in defiance of Mortarion's orders.{{Fn|1}}
