==Overview==
Propelled by massive steel watercogs and wheezing black smoke from chimneystacks, war galleys are crenulatedcrenelated, fortress-like combat transports for their [[Skitarii]] cargo. A full maniple of one hundred troops and their accompanying war machines can be carried aboard, in addition to the ships’ complement of [[Enginseer|enginseers]], bonded ratings, and deck [[Servitor|servitors]]. A lower, main, and observation deck provide sufficient space for personnel and equipment, including [[Ironstrider Ballistarius|Ironstrider Ballistarii]] and [[Skitarii speeder]]s.{{Fn|1}}
Blunt bows with landing ramps allow these ships to serve as [[Landing craft|landing craft]] in amphibious assaults, supported by a turret-mounted [[Lascannon|lascannon]] crowing the prow sniper positions in the onboard watchtower. Armored gunwales provide sufficient defense to make sinking these vessels a challenge even for a [[Hammerhead Gunship]].{{Fn|1}}
