Changes

The [[Warhammer 40,000 3rd Edition Rulebook]] (published 1998) included the original image of a Hrud - depicted as a crouched, diminutive creature swathed in rags, and possessing a rat-like tail.{{Fn|4}} [[Xenology (Background Book)]] (published 2006) then included images and descriptions of a Hrud with a very different appearance - as an upright swamp-monster style creature with long, flexible limbs said to hide its true form under a ragged cloak of decomposing filth.{{Fn|1}} However, this doesn't appear to have been a simple retcon. The [[Warhammer 40,000 6th Edition Rulebook]] (published 2012) included an image of a creature which reverted back to the Hrud's image depicted in the 3rd Edition Rulebook.{{Fn|20}} Then, [[Perturabo: The Hammer of Olympia (Novel)]] (published 2017) described the Hrud as matching the same description included in Xenology.{{Fn|28c}} [[Liber Xenologis]] (published 2021) reveled in this confusion and incorporated the idea of conflicting sources into the in-universe lore, stating from an in-universe perspective that there are wildly varying Imperial reports on the Hrud's physical appearance, and even that Imperial reports first recorded them as 'nocturnal warriors of Hrud' and that Hrud may be the name of their homeworld rather than their species but this was never clarified in the records.{{Fn|31}} The closest the Hrud have come to a model being released is in the Necromunda Zone Mortalis Underhive Market set (released 2021) which included a gun rack with a musket very closely resembling the Hrud Fusil depicted in the 6th and 3rd Edition Rulebooks.{{Fn|29}}

[[Liber Xenologis]] (published 2021) incorporated the idea of conflicting sources into the in-universe lore, stating from an in-universe perspective that there are wildly varying Imperial reports on the Hrud's physical appearance, and even that Imperial reports first recorded them as 'nocturnal warriors of Hrud' (as originally published in the 3rd Edition Rulebook) and that Hrud may be the name of their homeworld rather than their species but this was never clarified in the records.{{Fn|31}} Because of the publication dates of sources, it can be concluded that the appearance of the Hrud may not have been retconned since their original appearance but that there is instead a confusing situationwhere there are conflicting sources, both in-universe and in real-life, where there are conflicting sources on the appearance of the Hrud.
