It was among the [[Imperial]] forces assigned to defend [[Subiaco Diablo]], after the [[Plague of Unbelief]] spread across the [[Hive World]] and gave rise to hordes of [[Plague Zombie]]s.{{Fn|1a}} This later proved{{Fn|2}} to be an opening battle{{Fn|1a}} of the [[13th Black Crusade]],{{Fn|2}} and the 616th and [[Cadian 412th]] were charged with defending '''Hive Septus''', as the undead attacked the living. While the 412th protected Septus itself, though, the 616th defended the wasteland surrounding the Hive. However Subiaco Diablo was overrun by Plague Zombies three days after they began to rise and the [[Cadian]] [[Guardsmen]] believed that only Hive Septus still resisted the undead. Eventually, the Plague Zombies attacked the Hive in such massive numbers that the 616th was completely destroyed, save for one surviving Guardsman who was able to make it back into Septus. This Guardsman passed out afterwards, but was found and was taken into a hab unit to recover. {{Fn|1a}}
Sometime later, though, '''Hive Septus''' was overwhelmed by [[Plague Zombies]] created by the [[Hive]]'s [[Plague of Unbelief|infected]] population, as well as the undead swarming in from the surrounding wasteland. The 616th [[Guardsman]] awoke as Septus' was lost and learned that the [[Cadian 412th]] had been ordered to await evacuation at the Hive's '''Shuttleport Epsilon'''. After fighting through numerous Plague Zombies, the Guardsman reached the Shuttleport and joined the 412th in defending it from the attacking undead. The [[Plague Marine]] [[Korpharact]]'s forces attacked the port as well, but before it was overrun, shuttles from [[Astra Militarum]] troop ships in orbit, arrived. Though they continued to be attacked, the 616th Guardsman and the survivors of the 412th, reached the shuttles and were safely evacuated.{{Fn|1b}}
