The Eldar first attempted to stall the Necrons with hit-and-run attacks under the command of the [[Ranger]] [[Illic Nightspear]] and struck at Anrakyr and his closest allies, but Anrakyr was able to avoid the assassination attempt due to information provided by [[Orikan the Diviner]] and the squad of rangers was ambushed by [[Deathmark]]s.{{Fn|1}}
After several inconclusive battles on Carnac's plains, Anrakyr marched on the [[World Spirit]] shrine and thus forced the Eldar into a direct confrontation. Though the two sides were well-matched in the ensuing bloodbath, the Necrons' hardiness countered the precise strikes of the Eldar and Carnac's tomb suddenly awakened, providing Anrakyr with the flood of reinforcements he needed to finally emerge victorious. The Eldar retreated, pursued by [[Nemesor]] [[Raznaak]], and Anrakyr allowed Trazyn to take the planet's World Shrine as a spoil of war.{{Fn|1}}
