History
The System is home to the Excruciators Chapter and has an immense spiritual significance to their homeworld Motulu's population and the Space Marines themselves. The planet's and features each represent an element: Mahu'it is the world of fire, Rage of Rongowaqa is the world of water, the Wheel of Phaatuo represents air, The Cradle of Sinotuan represents earth, and Motulu represents all at once. All of these locations are used by the Chapter for training and selection process.1 During the War for the Charadon Sector, the Gildras System was a relative safe haven and drew all manner of refugees and forces. The refugee crisis began to overwhelm the Excruciators' support system, particularly with regards to vetting and testing for traitors and disease. Most refugee ships were given an anchorage point in Motulu's orbit. Few of the refugees were given the option of leaving their vessels, and even these individuals found little haven due to the inhospitable nature of the Gildras Systemsystem's worlds. Amid supply shortages and cramped living conditions discipline began to break down, and the Excruciators were forced to destroy several transports and Imperial Navy ships that threatened order. When Saint Bartolph's Throne was destroyed and the Neverdead spread throughout the system, the refugee ships became abattoirs and remaining loyalist forces had to clear them deck by deck.1
