Hive Secundus was once a Hive of Necromunda and was considered its jewel, until the Hive was turned into ruins after being infected by Genestealers.1
History
Known as the Second City of Necromunda, Secundus was a place of architectural and arboreal beauty,1 as well as a centre of learning and enlightenment.2 Those that lived there also lived comfortable lives when compared to Necromunda's other Hives.3 All this came to an end, though, when one of Hive Secundus' scholars attempted to concoct a Genestealer anti-gene, that would prevent the Xenos from infecting a population. The Genestealers the renegade Biologis Hermiatus used for his unsanctioned experiments eventfully escaped in 879.M41, however, after one infected him. Hermiatus would flee Necromunda afterwards, while the escaped Genestealers went onto infect a large number of the Hive's population,4 which led to the creation of the Cult of the Second Son.5 Necromunda's Planetary Governor, Cyar Helmawr,6 was made aware of what was occurring in Secundus, but he waited too long to deal with the infestation. By the time the Hive World's military forces finally attempted to purge Hive Secundus' of its corruption, they were unable to do so. Cyar was later publicly executed by the Inquisition for his failures in keeping Necromunda safe7 and he was succeeded as Planetary Governor by Kael Helmawr.6

For the next twenty years, Kael sent Necromunda's PDF and Palanite Enforcers forces to cleanse Secundus, who were joined by the Hive World's Clan House Gangs and Guilders.1 The Imperial Fists also fought to cleanse the corrupted Hive, but they failed as well.2 The fighting in Secundus soon became an effort to ensure that the Cult of the Second Son and its Genestealer masters, were prevented from spreading their infection across Necromunda. During those years, Kael also prepared to contain the threat by ordering Hive Secundus was surrounded by thousands of miles of fortifications. These would be manned by hundreds of Necromunda's PDF,1 and Enforcers8a who would ensure nothing escaped from Secundus to threaten the rest of the Hive World. This was named the Dust Wall and when it neared completion, the Planetary Governor halted efforts to save Secundus and instead he began preparing to destroyed it. Those forces that were outside of Secundus were withdrawn to safety, while those still fighting within it were abandoned and considered lost. Most of the underground tunnels linking Secundus to the rest of Necromunda's Hives were also destroyed or sealed off before its end came. Once these preparations were completed, The Planetary Governor had Hive Secundus bombarded from orbit with Nuclear Weapons1 and Graviton Missiles.2 This laid waste to the Hive and Secundus toppled to the ground, as the weapons continued to raze the thousand square miles that surrounded it as well.1

However despite Hive Secundus' destruction, the Genestealers and the Cult of the Second Son survived and they continue to dwell within its ruins.1 The weapons used to destroy Secundus, though, have mutated the Xenos into a unique sub-species of Genestealers known as the Malstrain.2 Because of Secundus' continued threat to Necromunda, the Dust Wall has remained to ensure its inhabitants do not escape from it - or that anyone attempts to enter the Hive. Those who man its walls, tolerate Necromundans sneaking into the no man land between the wall and Hive Secundus' ruins in order to plunder the wreckage and bodies there. This of course is provided that looters offer a bribe to do so, do not venture too deeply into the area or bring anything back alive. This is a lucrative trade and a number of settlements that have sprung up near the Dust Wall survive off of this, along with the money made from the Dust Wall's soldiers and Necromundans who visit the area to view Secundus' remains. Among these settlements are Bane Town, the Crater and Ashgrad, which is known to be the largest. However despite their leniency, the Dust Wall's soldiers have reserved the right to shoot anyone within the no man's land - even if its just for their own amusement.1

Despite the Dust Walls efforts to guard Hive Secundus, though, the Genestealers and the Cult of the Second Son have infiltrated its' underground tunnels and they now attack anyone who use them to reach the Hive's ruins.5 Despite the dangers in doing so, some Necromundans enter Secundus's ruins to plunder its riches or hunt the Hive's dangerous inhabitants. This includes the Spyre Hunters of the Hive World's Noble Houses and the Tek Hunters of the Clan House Van Saar, who will often work together within Hive Secundus, so they can each accomplish their own goals.2 Some Malstrain Genestealers and members of the Second Son have also managed to escape Secundus as well and have gone on to establish footholds on Necromunda4 and even create several new Genestealer Cults.9a9b9c1011 The number of escapees from Secundus has also recently increased8b in the wake of the Great Rift's Noctis Aeterna.12
