Re: source
Question, you wrote on your eddit for Kal Jerico that "you need to find a link directly from the publisher/developer web site", but the picture had as source Streumon Studio's official ArtStaion page, and we do link to official stuff from Facebook and Youtube, so what's the problem with official stuff from ArtStation? Also, I'm a bit uncertain what you mean with "you also need to create a source page for it", is it a fotnote to a source under the Source section or something else you mean? ==FYI==
If you're going to move info on space marine articles to other specialized articles (such as white scars), please make sure that every moved item is in the said page. Many of those pages (such as the character lists) are not regularly updated.

For instance, I've noticed that these 2 characters are not represented in the character list but were deleted from the Iron Hands main page

:1) You are very welcome to give a hand in helping me in this operation; you can for example add those characters that you somehow found about, to the "List of" or "Known characters of..." pages. Seems to me you know how to detect such things much better than i am able to.

:2) Thankfully, those 2 characters are linked to in other articles, or they would end up in the "orphaned pages" List, where we could catch them and add them wherever they would be needed.

A different FYI
I am planning to go through the articles you've culled vehicles/battles/e.t.c. out of, but it will take time. KazilDarkeye (talk) 19:15, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Re:Thanks
While I appreciate the acknowledgement, I wouldn't thank me yet: a) there's every possibility that I screwed up somewhere, b) we still need to sort out stuff that was notable that needs to be added back, stuff that wasn't sourced adequately to begin with and the new pages that were created. I'm also having problems with the Blood Angels and Space Wolves articles because of some problems with their sourcing that I'm unable to easily check due to not owning the sources in question (with the Blood Angels Source 1 references two different books, with the Space Wolves sources 40 and 45 are jumbled together).

Incidentally, with regards to vehicles and aircraft, are we planning to 1) do separate pages for each Legion/Chapter (as you did with the White Scars for example), 2) follow the format used for the Dark Angels and link to a section on the Armoury page, or 3) put the aircraft in the Known Vessels article as you did for the Salamanders? Ideally in the long run I'd go with Option 1 when there are enough, but Option 2 when there aren't. I'd just like to establish consistency now. : there is no definition of notable For engagements/battles/campaign that i know of, so it is up to you to re-add what you deem notable for each faction. My opinion: it needs to be a major and documented event (ie sizable article), for the faction itself, and not just a major "universe" event they also participated in, or a footnote event in a codex.
: That said, I will not touch those sections again for now (only did it for Ultramarines and White scars), as ï'd rather have an official definition (like inquisitor did for characters on the ultramarines page).
: Regarding aircraft/vehicles, i followed the logic of how it was presented on each page, but for consistency's sake, i think it would be best to do it the Dark Angels way, . --Siegfriedfr (talk) 08:46, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Citation rules also apply to image uploads
Hello, I want to stress that the citation formatting rules obviously also apply when uploading images. "(saved archive)" for example is not allowed. The format to keep is exactly specified in the citation rules. Including date format and everything. And "SoL" is not an accepted source, it is just a fan wiki with no official capacity. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 10:10, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
:I put SoL information in the trivia section for that reason.--Siegfriedfr (talk) 10:12, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

::Can't do that. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 10:17, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
:::The trivia template exactly says that.--Siegfriedfr (talk) 10:18, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
Trivia

::::The trivia help section says bugger all about using it as a backdoor to present fan-made content. Which a paint scheme definitely is. To be quite clear: there is a world of difference between using product images like blister/box/unpainted mini photos and painted mini photos. Because one is a documentation of (more or less depending on the state of conservation) original state while the other is a completely personal and far reaching personal interpretation. There is also a very good reason why the image upload help clearly states "Only images from accepted sources should be used. There are very few exceptions from this rule that only apply in very specific circumstances, so as a general rule just use accepted sources as described in the corresponding Help article. If you think you have a valid reason to request a dispensation or exemption from this rule discuss the issue beforehand with an Administrator or Bureaucrat." And apart from that there is the whole other issue of people not being happy at all when somebodÿ takes their private images to use them somewhere else. And while I have in the past already reached out to SoL and Mr Hale about potential collaborations I have not received any answer. So no, please do not re-upload painted private miniature photos for use in articles. You can however link to their archived original page on SoL (or similar projects) under Trivia - in the case of such obscure miniatures. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 07:18, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::So i take it from what you just said, that While SoL stuff is off limit for the Trivia section (because always painted), the CCM wiki pictures are, on the contrary perfectly fine, because it's always unpainted pictures of miniatures ? Also, i removed all the Redwart pictures from the article.--Siegfriedfr (talk) 14:36, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

::::::I don't have an overview of what images CCM exactly uses. I am quite sure however that they will be less than pleased if they discover somebody plundering pictures taken by their own contributors for use in another wiki. And CCM can for obvious reasons not be an "official" source either. A secondary source to possibly point you in the correct direction of a primary source, yes. But never a source by itself. I would again only link to them (or rather to an archived version of them of course) in the Trivia section, not steal their images to re-upload them here. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 21:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::::Ok fine, that's just one picture of one miniature, and i wasn't the first to have such an idea. You will have a lot of cleanup to do in many corners of the lexi, on the Bonnie Annerson page for a start.--Siegfriedfr (talk) 21:44, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

Central preservation of removed external links
Hello, it is obviously very good that you replace web sources with "proper" print sources. But can you please dump the removed links somewhere on a central page, thank you. They can still be very useful for tracking down archived versions of dead web links. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 07:26, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
:I'm not following you there. What is the use of a warcom article link that sums up what is more properly written in the "original" source ?
:Let me be clear, i'm all for keeping links of war com for everything that cannot be recovered from a printed source (more often that not, miniatures-related, something i have been steadily doing for years in pictures' source description).
:But for Lore ? I firmly believe that Lore articles should never have been written from war com in the first place (unless it's forever and only available there), because:
:1) war com is often a very incomplete version of the source material with added PR superlatives and sometimes innacurate unit description (ie they will use a naming scheme slightly different from the source material).
:2) the lexi article created from a war com source is then abandoned by the original creator because "work done", which creates additional work for anyone that comes after.
:You have to understand that creating additional busy work such as keeping not-that-useful-links (and from my pow, not necessary for aforementione reasons), is not cool. :/ When i updated many articles, saving time and clicks is always welcome. Time is precious!--Siegfriedfr (talk) 14:36, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

::I am not talking about Warhammer Community specifically, I am talking about all retired official external links. For example old and dead links to GW campaign websites, Specialist games links, Forge World shop links, license holder links etc. pp. And the purpose is to help track down possible archived versions of dead links later on. Therefore a dump of removed links can be useful when trying to navigate through the various archiving services huge archives. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 21:31, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
