This hallowed Order of warriors traces The Sanguinary Guard has its lineage back to origins during the [[Great Crusade]] when [[Sanguinius]] himself led the Blood Angels as a [[Space Marine Honour Guard Squad|personal bodyguardLegion]] . These warriors were the most renowned of the Orders of their Primarchthe First Sphere, fighting by his side in which then also included the most terrible battles imaginable[[Crimson Paladins]], [[Burning Eyes]], before being nearly wiped out during and [[Angel's Tears]]. Members of the assault on Sanguinary Guard were chosen for their unwavering devotion to their [[HorusPrimarch]]' and were tasked to act as the [[Vengeful SpiritSpace Marine Honour Guard|battle bargepersonal bodyguard]]of Sanguinius. Only The Sanguinary Guard fought alongside Sanguinius as he took part in the boarding operation of the ''[[Vengeful Spirit]]'' during the climax of the [[Siege of Terra]]. After this battle only a single survivor remained of that august force: [[Azkaellon]], Herald of the Primarch, and only because Sanguinius insisted that he remain on [[Terra]].
