Their formation began, in the aftermath of the [[Imperial Palace]]'s inner walls falling to [[Warmaster]] [[Horus]]' [[Chaos]] forces. This led the [[White Scars]] [[Primarch]] [[Jaghatai Khan]] to begin his plan to reclaim the captured [[Lion's Gate Space Port]] from [[Death Guard]]. However, he knew the White Scars could not do so alone and began seeking other forces to aid them. Because of the diseases spread by the [[Traitor Legion]], though, the Khan needed a force that was capable of fighting in a toxic environment. He knew that [[Rogal Dorn]], who commanded the [[Imperium]]'s forces, would disapprove of such a plan, and so the Khan sought aid wherever it could be gathered from. He then asked the White Scars' loyal ally [[Ilya Ravallion]], to help the White Scars due to her ties to the [[Imperial Army]]. Using her influence and signed orders given to her by the Khan{{Fn|1a}}, Ravallion was able to gather a hundred regiments of [[Battle Tank]]s and [[Super Heavy Tank]]s. Each was tox-sealed and their crews were warned of the diseases and toxins they would face. These Regiments were then amalgamated together and reclassified as the First Terran Armoured.{{Fn|1b}}
During the White Scars offensive to retake the Lion's Gate Spaceport, the 1st Terran Armoured spearheaded the ground assault with thousands of tanks as the White Scars themselves launched a [[Jetbike]] charge above. In the ensuing battle with [[Death Guard]] tanks and Spaceport defensive batteries, nearly the entire Terran First Armoured was wiped out but a scant survivors were gathered under the command of [[Shiban Khan]] to defend the recaptured Lion's Gate{{Fn|1c}}
