Gadriel, alongside his squadmate [[Chairon]], were the Ultramarines placed under the command of the newly returned [[Demetrian Titus]] by [[Captain]] [[Sevastus Acheran]].{{Fn|2a}} Gadriel was obedient but distrustful of Titus due to his background as a [[Deathwatch Blackshield]] and seeming connection to [[Project Aurora]] and the [[Inquisition]].{{Fn|2b}} These suspicions come to a head while battling the [[Thousand Sons]] on [[Avarax]] after an [[Astropath]] accuses Titus of being a heretic who plans to kill [[Marneus Calgar]]. Gadriel attempts to kill Titus to save Calgar and stop the [[Chaos]] plot, but thanks to Chairon killing the Astropath it is revealed that the [[Psyker]] had in fact been possessed by the [[Sorcerer]] [[Imurah]].{{Fn|2c}}
