Eye of Octos was founded in late [[M41]] on the recommendation of [[Akrep Xie]], an officer of the [[Deathwatch]] serving with Watch Fortress [[Furor Shield]]. He argued that, in the wake of [[Kryptman's Gambit]], a dedicated Watch Fortress was necessary to monitor the situation in the [[Octarius Empire]] and that Furor Shield was not only not large enough, but also not focussed enough, having other commitments elsewhere. The creation of Eye of Octos was approved and Xie became its first [[Watch Commander|commander]].{{Fn|2a}} Since its creation, Eye of Octos and Furor Shield have existed in a symbiotic relationship: whereas Furor Shield acts as a bulwark, responding to incursions from [[xenos]] threatening [[Imperial]] worlds, Eye of Octos has been the thrusting spear launching attacks into alien territory.{{Fn|2a}} In [[M42]], a splinter of [[Hive Fleet Leviathan]] broke off from the on-going ongoing [[Octarius War]] and invaded the nearby [[Pankallis Sub-sector]]. Its [[Imperial]] worlds called for aid and the Eye of Octos' current [[Watch Commander|Commander]], [[Akrep Xie]], has now led the [[Watch Fortress|Fortress]]Eye of Octos' forces there to aid them.{{Fn|1}}
