Linkage of Minds
Diacomes studied the linkage of minds. The linkage of minds has been possible since the Age of Technology, but there are a number of risks.1a
If one wishes to gain the full extent of knowledge within a deceased or living brain, it is impossible, for knowledge is indivisible from experience, and personality is the accumulation of experience. Ergo, personality must survive. Therefore, absorbing a person’s full knowledge risks conflict between personalities, which leads to psychosis. Many tech-priests believed this full linkage would always lead to psychosis.1a
Diacomes, however, was certain this could be overcome. There are many interpersonal cybernetic networks, temporary and permanent, that enhance the capabilities of all involved, but no way of absorbing human knowledge into an extant personality without damaging or destroying that personality. The Dark Age technologists did it. He was sure of that. Diacomes never rediscovered this lost technique, but he came close.1a This was the point where Cawl ended his apprenticeship with the magos.1b
Diacomes utilized xenos technology in this pursuit. He had pursued his research for hundreds of years. His test subject's minds were turned into nothing more useful than gruel in his research. This waste of life repulsed Cawl and lead him to depart from Diacomes' tutelage.1b
Diacomes only had 11 apprentices, all of which took memcore alterations as recommended by him. These memcore alterations made them more susceptible to mental overwrite if mind-linkage occurred. The first three were with him before he perfected the memcore alterations. Two were deceasded. Two were unaccounted for. Two went insane. Three more died during the Horus Heresy. The last surviving apprentice, aside from Belisarius Cawl, was killed by Altrix Herminia while trying to bring her to Ezekiel Sedayne.1b
Near the end of Sedayne's life he believed that he had perfected the linkage of minds where Diacomes had failed.1b
