Though the strike force was heavily outnumbered by Soulflayer's Daemonkin warriors, the Ultramarines managed to cripple the Forge Infernus. However, only the [[Librarian]] [[Maltis]] was able to escape and warn [[Chapter Master]] [[Calgar]] of the threat lurking at the edge of the [[Vigilus System]].{{Fn|1}}
At some point of this warthe conquering of [[Nemendghast]], Vorash Soulflayer managed to get his hands on two [[Freeblade Knight]]s - those who after bitter and long Chaos rituals were broken and become a [[Chaos Knights]] named [[Hand of Mourning]] and [[Bale Star (Dreadblade Knight)|Bale Star]]. As their new master, Vorash gave each of them an important order: '''Hand of Mourning''' was to find and bring to him an ancient [[Daemon Prince]], whose name was known to the Master and therefore he was eager to get this demon for himself; and '''Bale Star''' was tasked with bringing in chains the famous [[High King|Barroness]] of [[Tanika]], who was reputed to be one of the best duelists in the galaxy, and whom Vorash also wanted to break in order to turn her and her war machine into his another Chaos Knight.{{Fn|2}}
