The fire then struck again and again, each time causing the Exiles to suffer more intense pain. The warning signs of its attack were also less frequent and then it began to physically change the Warband as well. After one attack the Exiles found that one of their Rubric Marines had been turned completely into dust. Others followed and Ahriman sent Ctesias to seek answers from Daemons, about the constant attacks. He was successful and returned to the Warband with a name: Pyrodomon. The Daemons claimed it was an apotheosis, a metamorphosis in flame and soon afterwards Iskiades was the first Sorcerer to be permanently changed by it. When the next attack passed the Exiles found that he had been impossibly changed into a Rubric Marine, filled with dust and the echo of his name. It was then that Ahriman told the Exiles that he believed the Pyrodomon was a result of the Second Rubric of Ahriman, which was still ongoing and now out of control. Shortly afterwards, he led the Warband in a hunt for a cure, before the Pyrodomon turned them all into dust.1

Ahriman and his cabal attempt to use the Necron device dubbed the Key of Infinity to travel back in time and prevent the creation of the Pyrodomon.2a Meanwhile, Ctesias and Ignis discover that Helio Isidorus, the only Rubric Marine to ever be cured, had become a vessel for the affliction after the casting of the Second Rubric. Helio announces his intention to be to use the Pyrodomon to "unify" all of the Thousand Sons, living and dead, into one undying and unchanging state for all eternity.1c Soon enough, the Pyrodomon is able to infect fleets of the Thousand Sons, including that of Hacathi sent by Magnus from the Planet of the Sorcerers. Hacathi's fleet makes course for the Eye of Terror, presumably to infect Sortiarius as well.2a

Ahriman is able to use the Key of Infinity to travel back into the past, battling the Pyrodomon, Setekh, and Bitter Kin Daemons that want top see the Thousand Sons consumed.2b2c Ultimately, Ahriman is able to use the Key to reset the timeline and destroy Helio's soul during the casting of the Second Rubric, preventing the creation of the Pyrodomon.2d
