The Deceiver was the one to steer the Necrontyr towards war with the Old Ones, by using its words to instill hatred of their power and ageless wisdom. It was also the one that convinced the Necrontyr to abandon their organic forms and transform themselves into the mechanical Necrons in order to defeat the Old Ones.1e But not all Necrontyr would willing transform themselves, and it was the Deceiver that directed his followers to take them to the biofurnaces by force. Soon enough, the Old Ones were defeated and the C'tan and their Necron slaves were masters of the galaxy.4
It was then that the Deceiver was then began to set C'tan against C'tan4, convincing them that each other was the "best of all feasts", but despite this the Deceiver remained one of the physically weakest C'tan and only survived by avoiding the more violent C'tan, such as the Nightbringer and the Void Dragon.1f As the C'tan fought their personal wars that left millions dead and whole systems consumed, the Deceiver helped and hindered all sides equally. It kept itself at the edge of the conflict where it could take advantage of any opportunity.4
The Deceivers same deviousness proved to be its undoing. As the C'tan fought one another, disaster would befall their race. During the Necron revolt led by Szarekh, the Deceiver was beset by singing spheres unleashed by its servants that wrought it apart into shards.7 The remaining shards of the Deceiver believe themselves to be in control, fighting alongside the Necrons in order to manipulate them.4
