The Purgus Crusade{{Fn|1b}} and the other new Crusades were then charged with protecting the [[Ecclesiarchy]]'s worlds, that lay perilously close to the [[Great Rift]].{{Fn|1a}} While carrying out their duties, the Purgus Crusade received a plea for aid from the Ecclesiarchy-held [[Vatrica System]] and are now fighting to save it from the [[Szarekhan Dynasty]] forces of [[Necron Overlord|Overlord]] [[Tartorekh]]. Holgher was a great believer in the swift and overwhelming strike from on high, which initially allowed the Crusade to push the [[Necrons]] back. However, the fate of the Vatrica System has now devolved into a war of attrition between the two forces.{{Fn|1b}}
Holgher was eventually able to turn the tide by using a discovered [[Dolmen Gate]] on [[Vatrica Primus]] to launch a sudden invasion on [[Vatrica Quintus]], the Necron capital world.{{Fn|2}}
