During the [[Horus Heresy]], the planet willingly joined the Traitor cause. In the subsequent [[Great Scouring]] it was the site of a major battle as [[Rogal Dorn]] personally led his [[Imperial Fists]] against [[Perturabo]]'s [[Iron Warriors]].{{Fn|2b}} After the battle, Dorn declared that the world would never be rebuilt as a testament to its crimes, the laxity of faith, and a reminder to the sacrifices of the Imperial Fists. A shard of Rogal Dorn's armour remained on the planet after the battle.{{Fn|2a}}
Ten thousand years later, Hevaran remained a "ruinworld" with an impoverished population.{{Fn|2c}} After the [[Great Rift]], the planet fell into anarchy and came under the control of [[Iron Warriors]] led by the [[Warsmith]] [[Torven Vakra]]. However a group of loyalist pilgrims still waged a desperate guerrilla struggle against the traitors until a group of [[Black Templars]] under [[High Marshal (Black Templars)|High Marshal]] [[Helbrecht]] arrived in search of the lost shard of Dorn's armour.{{Fn|2c}} In the subsequent battle, the Black Templars and remaining loyal pilgrims were able to defeat the Iron Warriors and liberate the planet once more.{{Fn|2d}}
