The 252nd Kauravan Conservator Regiment is an Imperial Guard regiment known to have fought in the Kaurava system. The regiment was based in the Dussala precinct, which made up the southern part of the great leviathan city of Kaurava I.1a For most people living in the precinct, civilian and military life were viewed as the same, with a majority of Dussalan families having at least one son enlisted in the 252nd. Whilst operating as the headquarters for the 252nd, the Dussala precinct also operated as the primary headquarters for all other Imperial Guard regiments based in the Kaurava system.1a
Whilst the industry of Kaurava I was capable of meeting most supply needs for the regiment, it was further supported by the Adeptus Mechanicus and their factories based in Parmenie, Kaurava IV.1c Additionally to providing weapons and tanks to the 251st, 252nd and 253rd regiments, Parmenie would also be the primary source of techpriests to the entire system.1c
From the day the first settlers arrived on Kaurava II, the 252nd Kauravan Conservator Regiment would regularly engage the native Feral Orks in skirmishes and at times all-out war.1d1j For centuries, Imperium Settlers and Orks would continue in a back-and-forth conflict, gaining some territory only to lose it again to the opposite side. Though the 252nd Regiment would become aware that the Ork stronghold was within the Rokclaw Mountains, they were unable to secure a foothold to fully deal with the problem.1d As the Imperium's grip on the Karuva system weakened, so too would their control over Kaurava II. The 252nd regiment would first be overrun, losing the great cities of North Trivie.1e With the arrival of Gorgutz 'Ead 'Unter and his Waaagh!, even the most developed and well-defended cities of Kaurava II, Monse and Arransburg, fell leaving nothing but ruins.1h
With the loss of the major city formerly in the Broken Lands from the mining accident of Kaurava III's former moon, minimal attempts were made by the 252nd to reestablish their presence.1f While minor bases were established in the Principian Badlands, the planet was largely neglected by the former commanders of the 252nd Conservator Regiment.1h Noted by Imperial historians, had any of Stubb's predecessors ever taken their census and survey duties seriously, they likely would have awoken the Necron Stronghold Coastal Imossa centuries before the Kaurava Conflict. 1h Regardless of any former commander's luck or negligence, the undersized 252nd Regiment posts present in Nirraein and the rest of Kaurava III would be completely overrun by the re-awakened Necrons, with their last request for help to Dussala going unanswered.1h
Just before the start of the Kaurava Conflict, General Vance Stubbs would be appointed to lead the 252nd regiment with the hope that he would restore imperial authority across the neglected system, unlike his incompetent predecessors. 1b Before any great efforts could be made, a warp storm would appear over Kaurava IV and with it the forces of Chaos. In a single strike, the 253rd and 254th Conservator Regiments present on the planet would be completely wiped out or succumb to the corruption of Chaos 1h.
