The Great Crusade
The Great Crusade
During the Great Crusade, the Space Wolves earned both respect and renowned for their battlefield accomplishments, but this 8k such as the campaign against the Noman Xenos, wherein the STC for a new model of tank was discovered by the Space Wolves. The Mechanicum subsequently named the new tank design in honour of Leman Russ.40b However these glorious deeds were accompanied by a reputation for genocidal cleansings and brutality. Cataclysmic conflicts such as the Rangdan Xenocides redoubled the Legion's reputation as not noble savages, but as the Emperor's executioners and tyrannical enforcers.73
Under Russ' brash leadership the Space Wolves had other incidents with their allied Astartes Legions. This included the Night of the Wolf against the World Eaters and a brief bloody confrontation on Ark Reach Secundus with the Thousand Sons. It was also hinted that the Space Wolves, serving as the Emperor's executioners, may have had something to do with the disappearance of the two lost legions16; according to members of the Adeptus Custodes, they were among the first respondents to an act of betrayal involving the XI Legion.62
