'''Malpertuis, the Painted World,''' is the [[Adeptus Astartes Homeworld|Homeworld]] of the [[Angels Penitent]] [[Chapter]].{{Fn|1}} It is located in the eastern fringes of the Imperium. {{Fn|3}}

They were formally known as the [[Angels Resplendent]] and had filled their [[Fortress Monastery]], [[Kanvolis]], with the [[Chapter]]'s works of art. However this quickly changed, when most of the Resplendent came under the sway of the [[Undying Martyr]], who was found outside Kanvolis' walls. His pervasive words led the Martyr to become the Resplendent's spiritual leader and afterwards he declared the Chapter to be too prideful and vain. To rectify this, he demanded they destroy everything that tied them to their sinful past and the Resplendent's [[Great Purge]] began. Kanvolis was then scoured of their works of art and the Martyr's followers killed anyone who resisted his rule. Once it was done, the Angels Resplendent were dead and the Angels Penitent had been born amid their ashes.{{Fn|2}}. Malpertuis was then turned into a pious wasteland of gallows and pyres, under the Martyr's orders. Now bodies, books and dreams are burned on the world with equal fervor.{{Fn|1}}
