While present in the original incarnation of 1987 [[Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader]]{{Fn|45}} and further fleshed out in 1993's [[Codex Imperialis (Background Book)|Codex Imperialis]]{{Fn|46}}, the Adeptus Mechanicus were frequently mentioned throughout Warhammer 40,000 lore. However they would not become a fully playable faction in Warhammer 40,000 until 2015's [[Codex: Skitarii (7th Edition)|Codex: Skitarii]]{{Fn|47}} and [[Codex: Cult Mechanicus (7th Edition)|Codex: Cult Mechanicus]] for the [[7th Edition]].{{Fn|7a}} These armies were regrouped into a single faction with the release of 2017's [[Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus (8th Edition)|Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus]] for the [[8th Edition]].{{Fn|10a}}
