Phil Kelly begun working for [[Games Workshop]] in 1999.{{Fn|4a}}
As a child Phil Kelly was an avid model plane and model dinosaur builder.{{Fn|4b}} While in secondary school Phil Kelly got his first box of [[Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader|Rogue Trader]] RTB-01 [[Space Marines]].{{Fn|4c}} After visiting [[Games Day]] 1999, Kelly decided to apply for a job with Games Workshop. The job appliction form he was given had skulls and guns on it, which made him decide this was the job for him. Soon after he started work with [[White Dwarf]] as a Graphic Designer.{{Fn|4d}}
After working with the White Dwarf magazine team for a time Kelly moved on to developing Army Books for Warhammer and Codices for Warhammer 40,000. Notably Phil Kelly created the character [[Lucius the Eternal]] during this time.{{Fn|4e}} [[Codex: Tyranids (4th Edition)|Codex: Tyranids]] was the first codex Phil Kelly was able to work on on his own.{{Fn|4f}}
