More than mere bodyguards, these chosen warriors were also given the task of guarding ancient [[human]] artifacts of great importance and would carry on the work of Malcador should he perish.{{Fn|2}} During the final stages of the [[Siege of Terra]] when Malcador sacrificed himself to maintain the [[Golden Throne]], the Sigillite sent psychic messages to all of his Chosen to continue [[Inquisition|his work]] to ensure the survival of mankind.{{Fn|3}}
After the death of Malcador, the remaining Chosen gathered under the control of [[Khalid Hassan]] within the [[Fortress of the Sigillite]] within the [[Imperial Palace]].{{Fn|4a}} They immediately worked to gain a seat on the [[Grand Council of Reconstruction]] as well as empowering the [[High Lords of Terra]] to act as a counterbalance to the influence of the Primarchs, which they saw as dangerous in the aftermath of the Heresy.{{Fn|4b}} They also worked with [[Kyril Sindermann]] in establishing a new archive of forbidden lore relating to the power of the [[Warp]].{{Fn|4b}}
