The exact nature of the Terminus Decree is unknown, as its very existence is known to only a single soul in all the galaxy, yet rumours abound as to its ultimate purpose.{{CME}}
Some believe that it will summon forth some ancient and terrible force to battle and defeat the enemies of mankind. Others think it will purge the [[warp]] of the [[Chaos Gods]] and their minions, and bring about a new age for mankind, free of their daemonic influence.{{CME}}
Still others believe that once read aloud by the Supreme Grand Master, it will perform its rite and bring to a halt the ancient and arcane machinations of the [[Golden Throne]], ceasing its life-giving support of the Emperor's long dead body and freeing his soul to be reborn anew.{{Fn|1}} Other sources state that the Terminus Decree states that the Emperor can never be allowed to leave the Golden Throne or be reborn, and that it is the duty of the Grey Knights to return him to the arcane device should this occur.{{Fn|4}}
According to the [[Horus Heresy Series]], the File Terminus concerns the anti-astartes virus developed by the mad scientist [[Basilio Fo]]. The information was gathered by [[Malcador the Sigillite]] and telepathically passed onto his [[Malcador's Chosen|Chosen]], [[Khalid Hassan]].{{Fn|3}}
