The Warp reacts to pain and suffering: Most rituals of Chaos involve suffering, because this creates the necessary psychic energy.{{Fn|1c}} For example, the [[Book of Lorgar]] contains a ritual of Chaos for intercepting [[astropath]]ic messages. In this ritual, an [[Astropath]] is mutilated and possessed by a daemon. After several tries, it turned out that suffering is the crucial fuel of this ritual: Servants of Chaos who volunteered for this role to be mutilated and possessed burned out much faster than unwilling victims.{{Fn|32a}}
