In appearance, the Necrons are skeletal parodies of living beings with swirling green energies emanating from their mechanical limbs and baleful lifeless emerald eyes. Necrons' bodies contain blood-like coolant to prevent their internal energy reactors from overheating. Physically, Necrons are undying beings whose bodies exhibit superior strength and endurance to that of organics.{{Fn|17a}} While purely mechanical, Necrons still experience pain due to its biological usefulness. Moreover they Necrons' bodies contain blood-like coolant to prevent their internal energy reactors from overheating. They can even be "strangled" in a sense as the act of severing the flow of coolant from their core to their neural matrices will result in eventual death.{{Fn|17a}} Within each Necron is a small device that creates a [[Disruption Zone]], which transmit energy pulses that can disrupt the vehicles and weaponry of other species that use electricity, and even the bio-electrical weaponry of the Tyranids, though this effect is only prominent in close proximity to individual necrons.{{fn|59}}
Necrons have some robotic counterparts that are comparable to their past organic body parts. Eyes are substituted by ''oculars'', ears by ''auditory transducers'',{{Fn|17a}} skin by ''[[Living Metal|necrodermis]]'', and their faces by ''faceplates''{{Fn|20a}}{{Fn|20b}} or ''death masks''.{{Fn|17a}} ''Ribcages'' remain with their name unchanged, except they now protect an internal energy reactor,{{Fn|21}}{{Fn|17a}} rather than life-sustaining organs. Necron perpetual energy reactors require coolant to avoid catastrophic meltdowns, particularly in times of high stress, but can otherwise power their user indefinitely. The reactors give off a distinctive green glow from within their chest cavities.{{Fn|17a}}{{Fn|17d}}
