Reanimation is not a perfect reclamation process. Often there are parts and pieces of Necron bodies which are unsalvageable which will be left behind on battlefields.5a6
There are also certain situations however where Necrons can not be phased out at all, ensuring them a true death. This includes worlds with bizarre geology such as Serenade.3a The Necron Awakened Council also had the ability to block the PAGENAME of particularly troublesome Necrons, effectively rendering them mortal.3b A Necron could also willingly choose to shut down their reanimation protocol if they felt that it was their time to die, such as having failed their Dynasty or Overlord.10aSome dynasties may also choose to withhold reanimation protocols for Flayed Ones, in the hopes of preventing the spread of the Flayer Virus10a though in general Flayed Ones are still able to make use of Reanimation Protocols11.
