updating bits form eye of terror campaign
Spirit Stones are what allow Bonesingers to draw raw energy from the warp to shape it into the matter known as Wraithbone.7 Spirit Stones containing particularly strong spirits are often referred to as "Tears of Isha"11
Waystones
Waystones are, essentially, large spirit stones.15 Unlike other spirit stones they can be imparted a portion of a still-living Eldar soul allowing other Seers to communicate with and draw upon it, as Eldrad Ulthran did in preparation for the 13th Black Crusade,3d which enabled him to guide the myriad strike forces through the webway to coordinate attacks and unleash the full potency of his PsychicEldritch Storm attacks in multiple places at once.15
Notes
When a Spirit Stone is destroyed the soul once contained is lost to the warp, where it will presumably be devoured by Slaanesh.3a
Interestingly, in the novel Dawn of War (Novel), a Spirit Stone is smashed by a Power Axe, resulting in an incredibly loud metallic ringing, and then an explosion that not only destroys the Power Axe, but also sends Trythos, the Space Marine wielding it, flying a few metres away.
Like the Dark Eldar of present day, ancient Aeldari armour used during the War in Heaven doesn't feature these jewels.12
