'''Ragnar Blackmane''' was born a barbarian in the local tribes of [[Fenris]]. Chosen to be a [[Space Marine]] of the [[Space Wolves]] [[chapter]] by a [[Wolf Priest]], destined for greatness even before his induction as a battle-brother, at the end of his initiation rite he returned to the chapter fortress of [[The Fang]] bearing the pelt of a blackmaned Fenrisian wolf, a notoriously vicious breed. Ragnar soon became a [[Blood Claw]], but caused an uproar when he threw the [[Spear of Russ]] into the warp in a desperate attempt to stop the fallen [[Primarch]] of the [[Thousand Sons]]. He was then made a [[Wolfblade]], assigned to [[Terra]] to guard an allied [[Navis Nobilite]] group. He was the first to become a [[Wolf Lord]] without going through the ranks of the [[Grey Hunter]]s as by tradition, rather instead passing straight through as one of the [[Wolf Guard]].
Ragnar's own Wolf Guard consists of Brothers Egil (who went through basic training with Ragnar) and Gunnar, as well as the [[Rune Priest]] [[Njal Stormcaller]]. Another member, [[Sergeant]] Hakon, was shot in the head by a lasgun and died alongside Ragnarlate from his injurers.<sup>1</sup>
