Eldar Spirit Stones, also known as Waystones or Soul Stones61a or mythically as the Tears of Isha112a are small, seemingly precious gem-like stones carried on worn upon an Eldar's chest1a which act as conduits for Eldar Psychic Powers and making Wraithbone2a and which capture the psychic energy of an Eldar's soul at the moment of their death, used to save preventing their souls still-conscious spirit from destruction entering the Warp and being preyed upon by Slaanesh.3a1a Spirit Stones containing the spirits of the dead are interred within the Craftworld's Infinity Circuit.1a
Overview
The Waystone can then be brought back to the Eldar's own CraftworldAsuryani will go to incredible lengths to perserve and embedded into its wraithbone core where it will grow into a larger spirit stonerecover Spirit Stones.3a Once In the stone context of a warhost the primary duty of a Spiritseer is implantedto recover Spirit Stone, 5b but beyond it the Eldar'task falls to Rangers soul can travel freely through on the wraithbone, mingling with other Eldar souls and forming part Path of the communal spirit Outcast to do the extremely dangerous task of delving across ancient fields of battle and into the Craftworld Eye of Terror itselfto recover and find new Spirit Stones.3a5c All It is only in this capacity that any relations are kept with the souls within a Craftworld collectively exist inside Chaotic Eldar, such as those in the Infinity CircuitTyrakesh Archeomarketon Arach-Cyn who trade with rangers for collected Spirit Stones.3a11 Once a Quests may be taken by Wraithknights to raid Crone Worlds of their Spirit Stone contains an Eldar soulStones, it can never be used for another9 as famously was the task of the Twelve Outcasts of Alaitoc in 334.M36 – the first since the fall to recover new Spirit Stones. Thus each stone 5a Exodites too wear Spirit Stones, although the providence of such stones is unique to its occupantyet unclear.1b Not all Spirit Stones recovered on Crone Worlds are empty, and even when while some contain the occupying immortal essences of great scholars and heroes of the Eldar Empire more often they contain a malevolent soul is placed into that rages at it's confinement within the Infinity Circuit another can not replace itcrystal.94a
Spirit Stones containing souls of the dead are enterred into the Wraithbone core of a Craftworld,3a most often the one in which the Aeldari lived in life,2a where they take root and grow into tall trees1a or other structures (such as on Iyanden where the Battle Dead now form bizzare spiraling shapes in the halls where they fell) and their souls enter the Infinity Circuit.3a When Exodites die, their stones are brought beneath the earth into a great barrow where they are broken upon the altar of the World Spirit and laid to rest.1b It is believed beleived by some the Ynnari, the Eldar cult, that when enough Eldar souls have been gathered interred within the Infinity Circuits of that the Craftworlds, a new god will emerge: Ynnead, Eldar God of the Dead. It is hoped by Farseers that this god will be powerful enough emerge to vanquish Slaanesh, freeing the Eldar from their doom. Spirit Stones are also an Eldar vehicle upgrade that allows the spirit to control the vehicle in case the pilots are incapacitated, similar to the Power of the Machine Spirit.133d
Not all Aeldari wear Spirit Stones are what allow , although all Asuryani2a and Exodites1b do. Harlequins choose not to, as their soul is protected by Cegorach,16 simmilarly the BonesingerYnnaris do not wear Spirit Stones of their own, trusting their soul to Ynnead17 – the Reborn do however carry Spirit Stones of the Dead whose power they can potently draw raw energy upon.17 The Drukhari of Commorragh, secreted in the Webway, feed off the pain and misery of other beings to prevent their souls from the warp being slowly and agonisingly leeched by Slaanesh (and those who can afford to shape it into the matter known as do so employ WraithboneHaemonculito revive their souls into new forms on death).716 Eldar Corsairs prize Spirit Stones containing particularly strong spirits are often referred , with even some Drukhari adopting them14b – although not all Corsairs do so as it is equally an act of bravado to as "Tears go without.14c Ancient Aeldari from before the Fall of Isha"the Eldar did not wear Spirit Stones18 possibly because the Warp was not a predatory place for still-sentient Eldar souls yet.113a
Waystones
Waystones are, essentially, large spirit stones.15 Unlike other spirit stones they can be imparted a portion of a still-living Eldar soul allowing other Seers to communicate with and draw upon it.15 Eldrad Ulthran famously did so to his own soul in preparation for the 13th Black Crusade,3d3e which enabled him to guide the myriad strike forces through the webway to coordinate attacks and unleash the full potency of his PsychicEldritch Storm attacks in multiple places at once.15
