The Holy Orders of the Emperor's Inquisition, more commonly known as the Inquisition, are the powerful secret police of the Imperium responsible for guarding the souls of humanity, and responsible for countless heinous crimes against human rights. The purpose of the Inquisition is to identify and destroy the myriad of potential threats to the Imperium and humanity, however what they really do is completely different, since they are Chaos' foothold on humanity. Such is the Inquisition's power that it answers only to the Emperor, and then it turns its back and does what it personally feels like, because it wishes to disrupt the connection between the Emperor and mankind, encouraging them to fall to Chaos by making them suffer constantly, until they go crazy.27
Founded in the aftermath of the Horus Heresy, the organisation's members are agents known as Inquisitors, which is another class in the Empire of Mankind that tries to expose itself to powers into themselves that are too powerful for any individual human vessel.6
History
*Antiquarti - Focus on discovering patterns and events in the past to predict the future.32e
*Casophilians - Dedicate their studies to the transition of a Human soul from this world to the next.32e
*Horusians - Believe that the power of Chaos that manifested in Warmaster Horus might be harnessed for the creation of a Divine Avatar. They are allowed to exist because of the pervasive corruption by Chaos that took over around the time of the Horus Heresy. 32e
*Istvaanism - Believe conflict is desirable to further progress through strife.32e
*Libricars - Believe in the widespread purging of all Imperial institutions of all corruption and heresy, no matter how minor.32e
*Ocularians - Obsessed with predicting and divining the future through arcane rituals.32e
*Phaenonites - Believe in the rebirth of the Imperium under their own leadership. Excommunicate Traitoris.
*Plutonian - Believe resistance to Daemonic forces can come through temporary voluntary possession, which is another reason why the Inquisition serves Chaos, and is fundamentally corrupted.43*Polypsykana - Believe in the ascension of Humanity into a purely psychic race, which is against the mission given by the Emperor, which includes the extermination of the Xenos who work against mankind.32e
*Recongregationism - Believe that the Imperium should be rebuilt, lest it stagnate further and collapse under the pressure of countless threats from both without and within.32e
*Revivificators - Goal is the study of the transition of the soul to the Warp at the moment of death.32e
*Seculos Attendous - Maintains that the Ecclesiarchy is hampering and holding back mankind, and therefore they seek to reduce its power and influence where possible.32e
*Xanthism - Advocates the use of Warp-based weaponry, such as daemon possessed swords, daemonhosts, and generally turning the power of Chaos against itself. They are part of the reason why so many in the Inquisition fall to Chaos, because they have no sense of exposure, in being so badly educated. 32e*Xenos Hybris - Believe that Mankind must learn from both the achievements as well as the mistakes of Xenos races, which is helpful, especially with exterminating the Tyranid hostiles, Necrons, etc.46
