Welcome to this tutorial.
By reading this guide, you will learn how to create a [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Bots robot], or "bot", and how to use it on the Lexicanum.
**This is a tutorial for advanced editors**. Not everybody will be whitelisted for bot ownership, considering the risks associated to using one.

==Getting your public IP address whitelisted by staff==
The first thing you need to do is to reach to the current Lexicanum administration on the [https://discord.gg/jHkZDx8 Lexicanum Discord server] and let them know you would like to have your public IP address whitelisted. For this, you need to use a tool such as [https://www.whatismyip.com/ What Is My IP Address]. If they accept your request, your IP address will be transmitted to the [https://www.belloflostsouls.net/ Bell of Lost Souls] staff, who will whitelist it in their systems.
Do note that you most likely have two sets of public IP addresses for your terminal, one in IPV4 and one in IPV6. Sometimes the IP address used to contact Lexicanum will be IPV4, sometimes it will be IPV6.
Unlike [[Silica Animus|Abominable Intelligence]], bots are not smart. They will only do what you order them to, and nothing more than that. Any potential troubles with a bot would as such happen because of a user error. Be sure to take it slow, think before you do anything, and check the results of your bot's work. Since bot edits usually are hidden from the recent changes list, if you mess up something, then other people might not notice it on their own!

Beware that bot access is a privilege that can be removed at any time.
