Calidan's primitive inhabitants are only dimly aware of the rest of the Imperium, and have remained untouched by the alien horrors of the universe for most of their history. The people of Calidan live in tribes and worship the Emperor as "Sky-Emperor". Despite their primitive society, the people of calidan possess some more advanced technology, such as guns. It is a custom of the people of Calidan to leave their dead to nourish the jungles of the world.1
History
At some point, the primitive inhabitants of the planet encountered a daemon-thing in their jungles. The natives managed to hunt down the creature and kill it. The only survivor of the hunting party was a warrior named Katan. He returned to his village with the head of the slain beast and the natives rejoiced, for surely this meant that the Sky-Emperor would watch over them. In truth, the slain beast was a tyranid Lictor, sent from the approaching Hive Fleet Moloch.1
The psychic communication between the dying Lictor and the hive fleet was intercepted by an imperial survey vessel, Costar. The vessel notified the battle group command flagship Emperor’s Wrath, which was on patrol duty on the Eastern Fringe of the Ultima Segmentum. They estimated that a sub-fleet of the greater Hive Fleet would reach Calidan in some seven years. The admiral of Emperor’s Wrath decided not to intervene as it was more important to monitor the progress of the approaching hive fleet.1
