However shortly after he took command, Tarkus received word that [[Abaddon the Despoiler]]'s [[Heretic]]al hordes were now [[Nachmund Rift War|bearing down]] upon Moroch and the worlds of the [[Gorandahl Sub-sector]]. This led [[Sector Command]] to order Tarkus and the other [[Imperial Commander]]s of the [[Jaghaal System]], to fortify their worlds and wait for reinforcements. Until they arrived, it was his responsibility to supplement Moroch's already robust [[PDF]] and the [[Astra Militarum Regiment]]s that were stationed there. These orders were unrealistic at best for Moroch, though, as it was still a nascent civilization following its recolonization.{{Fn|1}}
Regardless, Tarkus would follow his orders and began conscripting his population to manufacture weapons and armor armour or to begin digging trenches and raising redoubts. This swiftly led the people of [[Moroch (Frontier World)|Moroch]] to resent Tarkus and the loyal soldiers who imposed who enforced his hardships. By the time Tarkus' reinforcements arrived, the [[Imperial Commander]] had already bloodily put down several localized revolts. Disaster struck, however, when his new [[Astra Militarum Regiments]] revealed themselves to be [[Traitor Guard]] loyal to [[Abaddon the Despoiler]]. The treacherous [[64th Deivan Heavy Infantry]], [[99th Borgalen Armoured]], and the [[Styxx 777th Warwolves]] then began to overthrow the Imperium's rule on Moroch. Worse still, elements of the world's own [[PDF]] joined them, after the Traitor Guard preyed upon the anger and fear that was rife within its ranks. With the element of surprise on their side, the Traitors have overrun most of the world and are now surrounding the '''Magnificentia''' settlement, which Tarkus rules from. Though his seat of power is being defended by the Imperial Commander's loyal forces, the situation looks increasingly dire for Moroch's Imperial defenders.{{Fn|1}}
