He commanded the [[Imperium]]'s forces that defended the [[Nephilim Sector]]'s [[Szabryne System]], when it was invaded just as the [[Necrons]]' [[Nephilim Anomaly]] neared the system. The subsequent [[Szabryne War]], saw Castigane face numerous [[Chaos]] and [[Xenos]] forces, which he led the system against. But despite his efforts, the [[General]] 's efforts, Castigane could not defeat the invaders , no matter his what plans or weapons unleashed Imperial forces he launched against them. Instead, the Szabryne System was still embattled when the Nephilim Anomaly finally approached it.{{Fn|1}}

With hours left before the [[Szabryne System]] was lost, Castigane gambled on a final attack, which he hoped would save the [[Imperials]] from the [[Nephilim Anomaly]]'s [[Stilling]]. This saw him unleash every Imperial force available to reclaim the world [[HumilitasSermona Magnificat]]' , on the world [[Sermona MagnificatHumilitas]]. It The Magnificat had once been the centre of [[Ecclesiarchy|Imperial faith]] in the [[system]], until Humilitas was claimed by a [[Genestealer Cult]] uprising, during the [[Szabryne War]]. The General believed though, that if he could seize back Sermona the Magnificat from the Cult, then the Imperials would prove their worth to the [[Emperor]]. In By doing so, Castigane hoped the Emperor would then protect them from the effects of the Stilling, when the Anomaly finally struck the Szabryne System.{{Fn|1}}
