Adamantium is an advanced material,2 scarce and much desired for armour plating.24 It is perhaps the strongest material used by the Imperium, impenetrable to most commonplace weapons.1 Like Plasteel, Armourplas and Synthleather, Adamantium is far more resilient than its archaic counterparts like steel, which are unable to resist advanced weaponry and are only used by primitive cultures.2 Adamantine is, or can be made, corrosion resistant.3
Adamantium is used for all sorts of purposes by the Imperium.2 For example, it is the material composing the Imperial Palace's Eternity Gate1, and is often used in conjunction with plasteel and ceramite, such as in the structure of Terminator Armour.

Adamantine plating is highly desired by those with bionic limbs for its durability and armour. The heaviness of the metal makes it impractical to armour an entire body, even with augmetic limbs and hydraulics to support the additional load.4
