The Jericho Gate was discovered by the Imperial [[Escort|frigate]] ''[[Spear of Tarsus]]'' in 755.[[M41]]. Concerned that the gate could be used by by enemies from the [[Eastern Fringe]] (such as the [[T'au]] and [[Tyranid]]s) to attack the galactic north of [[Segmentum Obscurus]], the [[High Lords of Terra]] decided the launch the [[Achilus Crusade]] through the gate to reclaim the long lost worlds of the Reach and fortify them.{{Fn|1c}}
