White Scars

No change in size, 6 April

The White Scars also consider it important to retain links with their successors. This is reflected in the tradition known as the Rite of Blooding, whereby once a cycle, champions from the various Successor Chapters come together to duel. The winner will join the White Scars for a full cycle to learn from the Founders before returning to their home chapter. The current holder of this position is Thursk of the Dark Hunters, who fought with Kor'sarro Khan on Agrellan.40b

Recruitment
The White Scars recruit solely from Chogoris, feeling it is important to maintain a Chogorian perspective within their Chapter to retain its true nature. Stormseers regularly ride out into the plains to observe Chogrian tribes at war and look for suitable candidates for the Chapter. Those that are deemed suitable in not only skill at arms but also in cunning, mind, and stoicism are taken back to the Quan Zhou and undergo many tests of great secrecy. All that is known is that the trials are brutal which push the Aspirants to the limits both physically and spiritually. Reported tests include reciting all 893 stanzas of the Battle of Kur and Huanglok; plunging into the icy depths of the Tovg ocean and returning with the horn of a mighty Oryavar whale; and crossing the Kherbal Flats in the summer and the winter.40b

Those who are successful in passing the trials must then chose an honour name. Some choose to replace their birth name with this; others choose to use it as a kind of surname or epithet. A key component of this practice is the element of choice, with the young Space Marines studying the history and legends of their Chapter to find a suitable name. It is not unheard of for some aspirants to fight (usually non-lethal) honour duels with each other if they choose the same name.40b
Tactics
The White Scars have been known to make use of a poetic battle-cant with phrases drawn from the stories of the peoples of Chogoris.19a19b
