Warning, possibility of spoilers regarding the book ''Legion'' by Dan Abnett.
The cabal is a group of mixed, ancient xeno species who prophecized that one day Horus will betray the Emperor and told Alpharius, Primarch of the Alpha Legion about it. They knew that perhaps for the next 10 millenias, the imperium would be engulfed in disaster and that chaos would rain upon the worlds of the universe, depending on the choices of mankind and in particular the Alpha legion. Given two options, both of which were madness, Alpharius could not believe his eyes, but he knew that the people of the Cabal weren't lying. The primarch spoke with with G'lattro in particular, one of the Cabal's elite, an ancient eldar who appeared to be their leader. He, Soneka a captain from the imperial guard, Peto Bronzi, Shere, a psyker, and Alpharius Omegon. Them and a handful of Astartes boarded the Cabal ship. What they found were the visions of Chaos. Though when they came out Shere was dead, he couldn't bare the visions and just collapsed to the ground. This is told in the book ''Legion'' written by Dan Abnett.
