It is unknown the date of his death but he probably retired at the end of the campaign after the atrocities he had seen.
Sejanus in the Horus Heresy
Sejanus is remarked in the text of the Horus Heresy, Part One. A novel part of the omnibus of the Horus Heresy in the Black Library.1
In the novel Loken, the 10th Company Captain, opens up with a flash back retelling of the day the Emperor was slain. Sejanus, although a VERY short lived character, is accompanied in text of gratitude, success, and envy. As in the first lines of Loken he remarks himself, how the crowd that listened became the most attuned and eager when he began talking of Sejanus.
Sejanus has near no history in the Black Library (correct if wrong). He is considered to not be the best at anything, however, the most tempered when it came to balance and certainly the most worthy as a scholar, diplomat, and a warrior. The only person to be set with a higher regard in certain aspects was Abaddon. (Which would leave one to believe that Sejanus had not of been slain, perhaps he would be the Warmaster of the Chaos, vice Abaddon). To truely recognize in the few paragraphs dedicated to Sejanus, one would have to remark on the captain's that are said to be sub-par to Sejanus' capabilities. Including, and not limited to:
- Abaddon
- Iacton Qruze
- Sedirae
- Loken
Sejanus is not only remarked by Loken as a supreme captain (captain of the 4th Company), but he is even remarked as the Commander's Favorite. Even if Sejanus was made up a few years after the 'vague' WH40k storyline was set up, it was a smart motivational character as Sejanus is seemingly the spark to set off the Horus Heresy, which was led by the captains named above and of course, Horus. None the less, Sejanus is remarked as a hero amongst the empire and would have inevitably became the Primarch to Horus, and thusly, Warmaster if Horus had conquered the empire. (Completely altering the fact that Abaddon leads the Chaos).
Sejanus is truly the opening lines of Horus Heresy, as it is described that Sejanus, although a loyal warrior to the Emperor, he had commented heretically that there could be a new emperor. And that Sejanus would denote the Emperor in his speeches and disputes in qoutes. Because of this, the Emperor eloquently requested his presence upon Terra. It isn't noted if Sejanus was suspicious of his coming death, but one would presume a man of his intellect and wisdom would only know.
Sejanus came to Terra and to the emperor with his best soldiers of the 4th company. It was then that the Emperor's most elite soldiers (at the time), the Invisibles, murdered and decimated Sejanus and his guards.
In retaliation, the commander, Horus, sent Abaddon and his best Luna Wolves to take vengence upon the false emperor.
