The virus has the impact to merge the carrier with the objects they hold, including weapons, and allowing them to respawn them at any time they wish. They have the ability also to spawn ammunition for their weapons, a most disturbing appearance for one unknowingly infected with the virus. Their skin is merged with the metal of that which they have absorbed, and simply become incredibly versatile units, being able to deal with almost any threat.
In most of the Chaos Space Marine forces, only a few members are infected, and as such are rare and generally prized. This is the opposite of the Iron Warriors who seem to have a vast number of Obliterators waiting to receive their orders, and as such may field more. Being able to morph their own weapons makes them a versatile and deadly enemy, with a very wide range of available weaponry, including lascannons, autocannons, plasma cannons, multi-meltas, twin-linked plasma guns, twin linked meltaguns, twin linked flamers, and a Power Fist.13
Though they are versatile, they are slow to move across the battlefield but once they meet close combat their strength and speed easily overwhelms many of the common units available to most armies, especially if armed with some of the more deadly close combat weapons. Also, due to their amazing abilities, they tend to shrug off all fears and do not hide from or evade the vast waves of enemy fire.
Another theory as to the origins of Obliterators is the theory that they are Space Marines (usually Techmarines) who have utilized the powers of Chaos to obtain a greater understanding of technology, and to further their own powers through hybridizing technology with their own bodies (which, as a result, leaves them hideously deformed, and able to fabricate weapons from their flesh).<sup>3</sup> ==Images==Games Workshop miniatures::{| border="0" cellpadding="3" align="center" style="border-collapse:collapse" valign="top"!colspan=9 ||----| | | | |----|}
