Chaos Sorcerer Sindri Myr- used the ork horde as a distraction to keep the Imperium from knowing of their movements on Tartarus. Sindri is shown conversing with Orkamungus and it is revealed that they are trading weapons to the orks for cooperation with them. The Ork Warboss takes offense at being ordered around by “humies” but the smooth talking Sindri manages to keep him under control. After the Chaos forces leave the area Orkamungus converses with another ork, who asks why they aren't attacking the Chaos forces, and says that the Chaos boys are not worth fighting yet and when they kill all the Blood Ravens, they will get what's coming to them.

Lord Bale- Commander of the Alpha Legion of Chaos Space Marines; he is intent on harnessing the power of the Maledictum and the greater deamon trapped within, he is betrayed and is killed by the Blood Ravens.
Tartarus is covered in a thick jungle and all human elements are surrounded by trees, making them susceptible to ork attack. The Imperial Guardsmen of the Tartarus Planetary Defense Force and the Space Marines of the Blood Ravens chapter are fighting the orks in order to evacuate the civilian population.
