Battlefield Role
The Leman Russ Demolisher is a specialist vehicle designed for short range bombardment. It is armed with a large turret-mounted Demolisher Cannon that has a very short range but does huge damage over a wide area. It must also be armed with either a Lascannon or a Heavy Bolter and may also be upgraded with two side sponsons of pair of Multi-meltas, Plasma Cannons, Heavy Bolters or Heavy Flamers (1). It is based on the chasis of the Leman Russ Battle Tank (2), although it is even more heavily armoured with extra side and rear armour to compensate for it needing to get a lot closer to the enemy before it can use its main weapon. It is also gets rarer sponsen often equipped with more potent sponson weapons, which make up for its short range main weapon.
Design
The basic chassis of the Leman Russ Battle Tank is fairly simple to make and repair but the weaponry mounted on the Demolisher is much more difficult and dangerous to keep working. Due to its superior armour, powerful sponsens sponsons and powerful cannon, it is highly valued by Imperial commanders for close support (3), especially as they tend to be detached from armoured companies and are known never to let their 'little brothers' down (4).
Vehicles, like infantry, need camouflage to hide from the enemy until they reach an optimum distance. This camouflage varies depending on the environment and some of these are shown in Imperial Guard Camoflage Schemes.
