Speculum Historiale
The Speculum Historiale is an Imperial tome, that was written by the historian Carpinus.[1][3] It contains a detailed history of the Great Crusade.[3]
History
The writings of Carpinus documented some of the Legiones Astartes, including the White Scars[3], World Eaters[2] and Word Bearers.[3]
It is known to contain reproduced fragments of records from the Age of Strife, that describe a caste of priests on Colchis who rebuilt the world's shattered society. They were called the Covenant of Colchis and had undertaken this mission on the promise that a great leader would come one day to deliver them from darkness. According to Carpinus' research this leader was later revealed to be the Daemon Primarch Lorgar.[1]
The Speculum Historiale is also known to contain information about the earliest history of the World Eaters Traitor Legion. However, it is rare for Imperial scholars who have the strength of spirit to consult the tome to be given the permission to do so. Though the Imperium has gained much knowledge from the scholars who have, it is not known to what extent the Speculum Historiale's information is trustworthy.[2]
