Description
The most significant advancement in electronic technology, Stacked Atomic Chains form the basis of molecular-level circuitry, being atoms arranged in rows and patterns in small pieces of material. They operate on an extremely low voltage and depend on flawless refining techniques for their raw material and perfect isolation when in usage. Otherwise, an unprotected Stacked Atomic Chain could even be destroyed by the natural electricity produced by a human body.[1a]
Few devices that use Stacked Atomic Chains are larger than the absolute necessity demanded by their controls or functions, thanks to the extreme miniaturisation being made possible by the Stacks.[1a] Fro example, Stacked Atomic Chains are found in the backpack of Space Marine Power Armour, where they serve as a small battery supplying power for life-support, air recycling, fluid recovery and various automated medical functions.[2]
Devices that incorporate Stacked Atomic Chains have no visible components. They are controlled by black slabs of stone or transparent panes made from glass, held aloft by suspensors or even recessed into the floor or ceiling unless activated. Methods of activation include voice or touch command or even coded radio-signal, whereupon the controls float into view, now displaying information like a vid-screen. Lights of different colours, which are touch or heat sensitive, take the place of traditionally buttons.[1b]
