Talk:Squad Senekus
From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Shouldn't this be Senekus (Squad)? --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 19:30, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- No? It is explicitly called Squad Senekus in the source. KazilDarkeye (talk) 19:51, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
- Well, that in itself is not an argument. Sources also say Commissar Yarrick and nevertheless we would never call the article that. See also Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum:Naming conventions. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 06:34, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- ”Example: If there were a unit bearing the name "5th Ganymede Heavy Infantry Regiment" it is not allowed to shorten the name to for example "5th Ganymede" (if there is no source naming it exactly like this, obviously)” - quoted from the naming conventions. I believe that there is nothing else in the current conventions that would override that in this case?
- The unit is never referred to as simply “Senekus” (you could also make the argument that calling this article Squad Senekus would be proper for the purposes of disambiguation). As for the Yarrick point, it could be considered proper in-universe to call him either “Yarrick” or “Commissar Yarrick”, but there is no evidence of anyone referring to Squad Senekus as simply “Senekus”. - I really do not think that the "Squad" forms an integral part of the name here, but is a type description. But I will try to have a look at the source. Not anymore than in any other of the myriad examples of named Squads. And the comparison with the 5th Ganymede is not good, here there is no type prefix. The equivalent would have to be Regiment 5th Ganymede Heavy Infantry to apply. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 09:58, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- I think that Squad here is integral. Compare Clan Raukaan, for example - by your reasoning that would have to be retitled Raukaan (Clan)?
- Also I do apologise if I’m coming off as combative here. I’m finding it a bit difficult to judge the tone of this discussion. KazilDarkeye (talk) 12:44, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
- The tone is neutral. I am evaluating and monitoring such events to include them in the Help section. Otherwise I am not particularly emotionally invested. And indeed, probably the "Clan" is a prefix, too. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 12:46, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
